Choosing the Right Landscape Design Style
For those that are new to landscaping they are often surprised at how many decisions they have to make about this. One of the first and most important is the landscape design. It means having some idea as to what different designs exist.
Formal Landscaping Designs
In most cases the formal landscaping design is going to be more expensive compared to many of the others. The plants and shrubs that are used tend to cost more. Also, this type of design requires more maintenence. For the actual layout it consists of straight lines. It can have geometric shapes added to it but these have to be well designed and very precise.
Informal Landscaping Designs
A lot of people like this type of design because it gives them more inexpensive options as to the types of plants and foliage they want to use. It can be manicured or left to grow somewhat wild. Almost taking on a mind of its own. It still does require maintenance to keep the weeds under control. Also, to keep agressive plants in control.
For this type of landscaping one is going to use nature as the guide for how the landscape will be planned out. Most often there is a lot of natural growth present that is not going to be disturbed. It may need pruning and on occassion smaller trees for example can be moved. For the most part the landscaping that is being done that is new will work in harmony with what is already there.
Gardens as Part of the Landscape design
Gardens often play a big role in the landscaping project. These have to be planned for in the design. There are several different types of gardens that can be utilised such as;
- Organic gardens
- Wildflower gardens
- Butterfly gardens
- Xeriscape gardens
There are basic concepts that need to be followed with landscape designs. But there is also plenty of room for creativity.
